Manasa Devi Story/Story Behind Manasa Devi Stotram:

దేవి త్వాం స్తోతుమిచ్ఛామి సాధ్వీనాం ప్రవరాం వరామ్ |

పరాత్పరాం చ పరమాం న హి స్తోతుం క్షమోఽధునా || ౧ ||


స్తోత్రాణాం లక్షణం వేదే స్వభావాఖ్యానతః పరమ్ |

న క్షమః ప్రకృతిం వక్తుం గుణానాం తవ సువ్రతే || ౨ ||


శుద్ధసత్త్వస్వరూపా త్వం కోపహింసావివర్జితా |

న చ శప్తో మునిస్తేన త్యక్తయా చ త్వయా యతః || ౩ ||


త్వం మయా పూజితా సాధ్వి జననీ చ యథాఽదితిః |

దయారూపా చ భగినీ క్షమారూపా యథా ప్రసూః || ౪ ||


త్వయా మే రక్షితాః ప్రాణా పుత్రదారాః సురేశ్వరి |

అహం కరోమి త్వాం పూజ్యాం మమ ప్రీతిశ్చ వర్ధతే || ౫ ||


నిత్యం యద్యపి పూజ్యా త్వం భవేఽత్ర జగదంబికే |

తథాఽపి తవ పూజాం వై వర్ధయామి పునః పునః || ౬ ||


యే త్వామాషాఢసంక్రాంత్యాం పూజయిష్యంతి భక్తితః |

పంచమ్యాం మనసాఖ్యాయాం మాసాంతే వా దినే దినే || ౭ ||


పుత్రపౌత్రాదయస్తేషాం వర్ధంతే చ ధనాని చ |

యశస్వినః కీర్తిమంతో విద్యావంతో గుణాన్వితాః || ౮ ||


యే త్వాం న పూజయిష్యంతి నిందంత్యజ్ఞానతో జనాః |

లక్ష్మీహీనా భవిష్యంతి తేషాం నాగభయం సదా || ౯ ||


స్తోత్రం 


త్వం స్వర్గలక్ష్మీః స్వర్గే చ వైకుంఠే కమలా కలా |

నారాయణాంశో భగవాన్ జరత్కారుర్మునీశ్వరః || ౧౦ ||


తపసా తేజసా త్వాం చ మనసా ససృజే పితా |

అస్మాకం రక్షణాయైవ తేన త్వం మనసాభిధా || ౧౧ ||


మనసా దేవితుం శక్తా చాత్మనా సిద్ధయోగినీ |

తేన త్వం మనసాదేవీ పూజితా వందితా భవే || ౧౨ ||


యాం భక్త్యా మానసా దేవాః పూజయంత్యనిశం భృశమ్ |

తేన త్వాం మనసాదేవీం ప్రవదంతి పురావిదః || ౧౩ ||


సత్త్వరూపా చ దేవీ త్వం శశ్వత్సత్త్వనిషేవయా |

యో హి యద్భావయేన్నిత్యం శతం ప్రాప్నోతి తత్సమమ్ || ౧౪ ||


ఫలశ్రుతి


ఇంద్రశ్చ మనసాం స్తుత్వా గృహీత్వా భగినీం చ తామ్ |


నిర్జగామస్వ భవనం భూషావాస పరిచ్ఛదామ్ || ౧౫ ||


పుత్రేణ సార్ధం సా దేవీ చిరం తస్థౌ పితుర్గృహే |

భ్రాతృభిః పూజితా శశ్వన్మాన్యావన్ద్యా చ సర్వతః || ౧౬ ||


గోలోకాత్సురభీ బ్రహ్మంస్తత్రాగత్య సుపూజితామ్ |

ఇదం స్తోత్రం పుణ్యబీజం తాం సంపూజ్య చ యః పఠేత్ || ౧౭ ||


తస్య నాగభయం నాస్తి తస్యవంశే భవేచ్చ యః |

విషం భవేత్సుధాతుల్యం సిద్ధస్తోత్రం యదా పఠేత్ || ౧౮ ||


పంచలక్షజపేనైవ సిద్ధస్తోత్రో భవేన్నరః |

సర్పశాయీ భవేత్సోఽపి నిశ్చితం సర్పవాహనః || ౧౯ ||


ఇతి శ్రీ బ్రహ్మవైవర్తేమహాపురాణే ద్వితీయేప్రకృతిఖండే మనసోపాఖ్యానే మహేంద్ర కృత శ్రీ మానసా దేవీ స్తోత్రం సంపూర్ణం ||

Meaning:

Verse 1:

  • Devi tvam stotum ichchaami: I desire to praise you, O goddess.
  • Sadhviinaam pravaram varaam: You are the best among the virtuous.
  • Paratparaaam cha paramaam: You are the supreme and the highest.
  • Na hi stotum kshamo'dhunaa: I am not capable of praising you now.

Verse 2:

  • Stotraanaam lakshanam vede: The characteristics of hymns are described in the Vedas.
  • Svabhaavaakhyaanaatah param: They are the supreme form of explaining the nature of the divine.
  • Na kshamah prakrtim vaktu: I am not capable of describing the nature.
  • Gunanaam tava suvrate: Of your qualities, O virtuous one.

Verse 3:

  • Shuddhasattvasvarupaa tvaam: You are of the form of pure sattva.
  • Kopahimsaa vivarjitaa: You are free from anger and violence.
  • Na cha shapto munistena: You were not cursed by the sage.
  • Tyaktayaa cha tvayaa yatah: Because you were abandoned by him.

Verse 4:

  • Tvam maya poojitaa saadhvi: You are worshipped by me, O virtuous one.
  • Jananii cha yathaa Aditi: Like the mother Aditi.
  • Dayarupaa cha bhaginii: You are the embodiment of compassion, O sister.
  • Kshamarupaa yathaa Prasuh: Like the goddess of forgiveness, Prasuh.

Verse 5:

  • Tvayaa me rakshitaah praanaah: My life and breath are protected by you.
  • Putradaaraah sureshvari: O goddess, protector of the universe.
  • Aham karomi tvaam poojyaam: I make you worthy of worship.
  • Mama pretiścha vardhate: And my love for you increases.

Verse 6:

  • Nityam yadyapi poojyaa tvam: Even though you are always worthy of worship.
  • Bhave'tra jagadambike: O mother of the universe.
  • Tathaa'pi tava poojaam vai: Nevertheless, I will increase your worship.
  • Vardhayaami punah punah: Again and again.

Verse 7:

  • Ye tvaam aashaadha sankraantyaa: Those who worship you on the auspicious day of Ashadha Sankranti.
  • Panchamyaan manasaakhyaayaam: On the fifth day of the month of Manasa.
  • Maasaante vaa dine dine: Or at the end of the month, or every day.

Verse 8:

  • Putrapautraadayas teshaam: Their sons, grandsons, and wealth will increase.
  • Vardhante cha dhanaani cha: They will be prosperous and wealthy.
  • Yasasvinaah keertimanto: They will be famous and glorious.
  • Vidyaavantah gunaanvitaah: They will be learned and virtuous.

Verse 9:

  • Ye tvaam na poojayishyanti: Those who do not worship you.
  • Nindanti ajnaanato janaah: And criticize you out of ignorance.
  • Lakshmiheenaa bhavishyanti: They will be devoid of wealth and prosperity.
  • Teshaam naagabhayam sadaa: They will always be afraid of snakes.

Stotram (Verses 10-14):
