Story Behind Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba Stotram:
The Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba Stotram is a hymn that is believed to have been composed by Adi Shankaracharya in praise of Lord Narasimha, the half-man half-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, Adi Shankaracharya was once on a pilgrimage to the temple of Lord Narasimha in the town of Sholingur in Tamil Nadu, India.
On the way, he encountered a group of fierce bandits who attacked him and tried to rob him. Adi Shankaracharya prayed to Lord Narasimha for protection, and the deity appeared before him and defeated the bandits. Adi Shankaracharya was filled with gratitude and composed the Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba Stotram in praise of Lord Narasimha.
The stotram is a prayer for protection, strength, and blessings. It describes Lord Narasimha as the supreme protector and savior who can offer refuge to his devotees in times of distress and difficulty. శ్రీమత్పయోనిధినికేతన చక్రపాణే భోగీంద్రభోగమణిరాజిత పుణ్యమూర్తే ।
యోగీశ శాశ్వత శరణ్య భవాబ్ధిపోత లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 1 ॥
O Lord of the ocean of milk, O wielder of the discus, O embodiment of the wealth of the gods, O pure and holy one,
O refuge of yogis, eternal shelter, O savior from the ocean of samsara,
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
బ్రహ్మేంద్రరుద్రమరుదర్కకిరీటకోటి సంఘట్టితాంఘ్రికమలామలకాంతికాంత ।
లక్ష్మీలసత్కుచసరోరుహరాజహంస లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 2 ॥
Your feet are like lotus flowers, touched by the crowns of Brahma, Indra, and Rudra,
And your chest is like the moon, adorned with the beauty of Lakshmi's breasts.
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
సంసారదావదహనాకరభీకరోరు-జ్వాలావళీభిరతిదగ్ధతనూరుహస్య ।
త్వత్పాదపద్మసరసీరుహమాగతస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 3 ॥
My body is burnt by the flames of the forest fire of samsara,
And I have taken refuge at your lotus feet.

సంసారజాలపతితతస్య జగన్నివాస సర్వేంద్రియార్థ బడిశాగ్ర ఝషోపమస్య ।
ప్రోత్కంపిత ప్రచురతాలుక మస్తకస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 4 ॥
I am caught in the net of samsara,
And my mind is tormented by the desires of the senses.
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
సంసారకూమపతిఘోరమగాధమూలం సంప్రాప్య దుఃఖశతసర్పసమాకులస్య ।
దీనస్య దేవ కృపయా పదమాగతస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 5 ॥
I am like a poor man who has fallen into a deep well,
And I am crying out for your help.
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
సంసారభీకరకరీంద్రకరాభిఘాత నిష్పీడ్యమానవపుషః సకలార్తినాశ ।
ప్రాణప్రయాణభవభీతిసమాకులస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 6 ॥
I am like a man being crushed by the elephant of samsara,
And I am filled with fear.

సంసారసర్పవిషదిగ్ధమహోగ్రతీవ్ర దంష్ట్రాగ్రకోటిపరిదష్టవినష్టమూర్తేః ।
నాగారివాహన సుధాబ్ధినివాస శౌరే లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 7 ॥
I am bitten by the serpent of samsara,
And I am poisoned by its venom.

సంసారవృక్షబీజమనంతకర్మ-శాఖాయుతం కరణపత్రమనంగపుష్పమ్ ।
ఆరుహ్య దుఃఖఫలితః చకితః దయాళో లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 8 ॥
I am like a bird caught in the tree of samsara,
And I am about to fall into the pit of hell.

సంసారసాగరవిశాలకరాళకాళ నక్రగ్రహగ్రసితనిగ్రహవిగ్రహస్య ।
వ్యగ్రస్య రాగనిచయోర్మినిపీడితస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 9 ॥
I am drowning in the ocean of samsara,
And I am crying out for your help.

సంసారసాగరనిమజ్జనముహ్యమానం దీనం విలోకయ విభో కరుణానిధే మామ్ ।
ప్రహ్లాదఖేదపరిహారపరావతార లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 10 ॥
I am like Prahlada, who was saved by you from his father,
And I am begging for your protection.

సంసారఘోరగహనే చరతో మురారే మారోగ్రభీకరమృగప్రచురార్దితస్య ।
ఆర్తస్య మత్సరనిదాఘసుదుఃఖితస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 11 ॥
I am wandering in the forest of samsara,
And I am afraid of the wild animals of maya.
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand
బద్ధ్వా గలే యమభటా బహు తర్జయంత కర్షంతి యత్ర భవపాశశతైర్యుతం మామ్ ।
ఏకాకినం పరవశం చకితం దయాళో లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 12 ॥
I am bound by the ropes of karma,
And I am being dragged to hell.

లక్ష్మీపతే కమలనాభ సురేశ విష్ణో యజ్ఞేశ యజ్ఞ మధుసూదన విశ్వరూప ।
బ్రహ్మణ్య కేశవ జనార్దన వాసుదేవ లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 13 ॥
O Lord of Lakshmi, O lotus-naveled one, O protector of the gods,
O Lord of sacrifice, O slayer of Madhu, O universal form,
O Brahman, O Keshava, O Janardana, O Vasudeva,
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
ఏకేన చక్రమపరేణ కరేణ శంఖ-మన్యేన సింధుతనయామవలంబ్య తిష్ఠన్ ।
వామేతరేణ వరదాభయపద్మచిహ్నం లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 14 ॥
In one hand you hold the discus, in another the conch,
And with your third hand you embrace Lakshmi,
And with your fourth hand you offer the boon of fearlessness.

అంధస్య మే హృతవివేకమహాధనస్య చోరైర్మహాబలిభిరింద్రియనామధేయైః ।
మోహాంధకారకుహరే వినిపాతితస్య లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 15 ॥
I am blind, and I have lost my wealth of discrimination,
And I have fallen into the dark pit of delusion.
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
ప్రహ్లాదనారదపరాశరపుండరీక-వ్యాసాదిభాగవతపుంగవహృన్నివాస ।
భక్తానురక్తపరిపాలనపారిజాత లక్ష్మీనృసింహ మమ దేహి కరావలంబమ్ ॥ 16 ॥
You are the beloved of Prahlada, Narada, Parasara, and Puṇḍarīka,
And you are the protector of your devotees.
Lakshmi Narasimha, please take me in your hand.
లక్ష్మీనృసింహచరణాబ్జమధువ్రతేన స్తోత్రం కృతం శుభకరం భువి శంకరేణ ।
యే తత్పఠంతి మనుజా హరిభక్తియుక్తా-స్తే యాంతి తత్పదసరోజమఖండరూపమ్ ॥ 17 ॥
This stotra of Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba
Was composed by Shankaracharya for the welfare of the world.
